Call-out for affinity group / smaller group actions
The camp is going to be a fantastic example of the sorts of ways we think we might live in the future, but it's not just about that. Without direct action against the causes of climate change, there isn't going to be an inhabitable world to live in for long enough for this to be worth it.
Actions taken in small groups have been very successful in the past, whether uprooting GM crops or blockading the G8 in Gleneagles last summer. In a small group it's possible to be well-organised, effective and secure.
There are lots of places around the camp that small groups might like to visit, from the three power stations to the docks where all the UK's coal supplies arrive, from the freight on the M62 to the peat mining sites. We're not all going to get to all of them: small affinity groups are the best way to make our presence felt as widely as possible.
Resources
If you're planning direct action, we've put together some helpful tips that you might like to think about. Please bring any equipment you need for your action. We hope that there will be some tat at the camp that people will be able to use, as well as some action preparation workshops if you want to improve your quick decision making, or get to know your equipment better. We'd love it if all affinity groups could do as much preparation as possible before the camp, so that you can share skills with others when you get here!
Media & Press Work
Affinity groups are encouraged to do their own media work if they can, but the media team will help to facilitate media coverage of affinity group actions. If you want press coverage of your action call the media group on 07772861099 and we will inform journalists, film crews and activist media about your action, or visit the media tent.
