Transport stuff

Email transport[at]climatecamp.org.uk by the beginning of August if you have stuff for the lorry to pick up on it's way round Britain.

Email transport[at]climatecamp.org.uk if you can drive a minibus from Glasgow to the camp on Thursday 24 August.

Two 17 seat mini busses are booked to travel from Glasgow just prior to the Climate camp. They require drivers for the journey down and the journey back. You must have a licence that enables you to drive a 17 seater mini bus. This opportunity will provide 35 free seats from Scotland to the camp and back home again.

Transport also needs responsible drivers to assist with running the free mini bus service during the camp. Any body interested must be over 25, have a clean licence and be able to drive a 17 seater. If interested please contact transport(at)climatecamp.org.uk asap with your details and contact number.

The transport group is looking for drivers to ferry people from a nearby train station to the camp site and back. You can do this as much or as little as you want: contact transport[at]climatecamp.org.uk

Safety and wellbeing helpers

The Wellbeing area will be a quiet space (a fairly large geo-dome or marquee type structure) where people can have a sit down, a cup of tea and a chat as well as receiving more specific help and information. We want to promote positive lifestyles and a preventative approach to emotional and physical health problems as well as reacting to stress, trauma etc. It will be open during the day and evening and there will be a coordinator/contact person available at all times during the camp.

It will mainly provide:

  • Hot drinks and a quiet space where people can chill, be quiet, rest, chat
  • Taster and full sessions of alternative/complementary therapies and information about them and how people can look after themselves
  • The Activist Trauma Support Network will be based there, providing listening space for people who are stressed, traumatised etc.

So we need:

  • general helpers to look after the area, make tea, chat to people who aren't after specific help etc. etc
  • alternative/complementary therapists who would like to donate their services either in short or full treatment sessions. We ask that you are qualified, do not charge (donations can be made then pooled at the end for equipment/travel) and if you need a seperate tent/structure that you bring your own.
  • new members of activist trauma (see below).

If you are only coming for part of the camp that’s fine, we don’t expect everyone to volunteer for the whole camp. We anticipate Wellbeing’s busiest days in terms of dealing with stressed people being Thursday and Friday. If you can volunteer you will be asked to fill in a short form detainming your motivation and experience as well as availability. We will then phone you for a chat and everyone will meet up at the start of the camp.

Please e-mail wellbeing [at] climatecamp.org.uk.

Tranquility team: This team will consist of people doing 4 hour shifts in pairs keeping the camp a positive space. They will deal with any internal conflict eg arguments, noise, other disturbances and whatever else is needed. We hope that everyone at the camp will take responsibility for this but the tranquility team will be on hand to help too. Training will be provided at the camp, you can volunteer there but it is really useful for us to know how many volunteers we have in advance so please contact wellbeing[at]climatecamp.org.uk.

Translators: We need translators, primarily for French, German and Spanish, to provide support for the legal and medical teams and anywhere else that translation might be needed. If you have language skills please contact wellbeing[at]climatecamp.org.uk to be added to our list.

Prisoner Support: We have some offers of help but need someone or a small group of people to coordinate this before and during the camp. Contact wellbeing[at]climatecamp.org.uk.

Legal Observers: We need legal observers for actions which will take place as part of the camp. Training will be available. Please contact wellbeing[at]climatecamp.org.uk to volunteer and/or for further details.

Legal person: We are short of legal people both in the run up to and during the camp. We have a prisoner support coordinator but need volunteers to help out.

Action Medic Training: The medic group will not be providing medics to go on actions with affinity groups that take place off the site of the Climate Camp. So if you want somebody with first aid skills on your action you will need to get some training - which is being provided by the action medics group. See the list of Action Medic trainings for more information about some of the training they offer.
