Sunday 12.20-12.40 pm Discussion on date for Big Action
Big action on a weekday
Pros:
Better trains.
School/uni/college holidays.
Fits better in timetable.
Target likely to be busier.
Leaves time for more lengthy occupation.
Easier to get media coverage.
Easier to squat for a few days than a week.
Allows time to discuss what happens next and evaluate.
Doesn't clash with as mnay other greeny events.
Cons:
People might not come due to work/commitments.
Might make us focus only on big actions and not do affinity groups actions as well.
Police not distracted by football matches.
Interesting:
Call in sick can be part of the action.
Ask people to book a day off work for action.
Some people work on Saturdays.
Big action on First Saturday (26th August)
Pros:
Lots of people can come (weekend).
Big publicity for the camp.
Part of bank holiday weekend.
Could be an ongoing occupation.
Publicity/organising before the camp.
Cons:
Immediate police reaction.
Bank holidays â... people coming for workshops.
Issues if squatted.
Action not coming out of camp.
No time to prepare at camp/have prep workshops.
Big action on second Saturday (3rd September)
Pros:
Lots of people can come (weekend).
Build up to action during the camp.
People can be packed up ready to go.
Allows time for training and preparation.
Motivation from week's discussion/workshops.
Lots of people coming adds protection to the camp.
More people coming to site.
Doesn't clash with bank holiday weekend.
People will have heard about the camp and be able to get involved with action.
Cons:
Do action and go home.
No evaluation/debrief after action.
Security at targets a lot higher after week of affinity group actions.
Ongoing occupation less likely.
No one left to take down the site.
Clashes with lots of greeny events.
Decision: Discuss and decide day for public direct action at the Bristol gathering. Look at all options including weekdays. Action support group to prepare leaflet/publicity for Bristol.
4pm Feedback session Sunday 9th April
Feedback from 3 sub groups from morning session
Sub group on organising central fundraising events
* Manchester Soundsystem is organising party in Manchester area (in the hills)* Set up pay pal system on website
* create and sell merchandise "Friends of climate camp"
* Nottingham is working on running a licensed bar at the Big Green Gathering
* Have a masked ball - spectacular and expensive
* National Day of jumblesales
* Big fundraising Party in London - is now being organised. Beer sale or return, ask Synergy in Lond and Russel Square Social Centre, need outlay for beer and publicity. Get money for camp not local group. Doesn't have to be London, but easier.
Sub group on bars and entertainment
No decisions made, but very useful discussions. Will need to be revisited later after working groups had a chance to consider issues more. This will probably happen at the June gathering.
BARS
* Can't stop alcohol being on site. We'd rather have alcohol from small, local
places.
* Should there be a central bar or bars run by neighbourhoods? Many people liked
the idea that the camp organising collecitve supplies the beer to
neighbourhoods. This means the camp would get the profits, we get ethical beer
and it's easier to control (eg. we set times).
*Size of site is important.
* What stops neighbourhoods from having autonomous bars? Big fire fire/focal
point draws people.
* Stagger openeing times over the week.
* If non-neighbourhood people sell beer - ask for a cut of the profits/donation,.
AP: Networking and Outreach Group to approach neighbourhoods for their input.
QUIET SPACES
There was a discussion on having quiet spaces.
*Could have all entertainments in one zone. Could have mix of quiet/loud space
in neighbourhoods. Quiet space needs to be respected
Sub group on charging for parking spaces
(Contact: site group)* Break down vehicles into different categories: cars (full, one person, families), grop vans, live-in vehicles, buses, motorbikes, disabled cars.
*Idea to have flat fee for cars - this miight encourage people to fill up their cars.
*Hire coaches from main cities to avoid people driving
*Think about a camp wide travel pool.
Working group Feedback

A write up will be sent out before the Bristol gathering.
