Reclaim Power
Thursday 31st August 2006
Inspired by the Camp for Climate Action
Reclaim Power is a day where people will take action to move away from an economy based on fossil fuels and towards a society based on co-operation and local solutions . Join thousands of people converging on Drax power station in Megawatt Valley on 31st August for a day of creative mass action.
Climate change is the greatest threat ever to face humanity and it's happening now. Governments and big business dream of continued economic growth and so can't solve this crisis. We need to change the way we live: the solutions are local, they start with everyone of us.
Is our future to be war, famine, hurricanes, droughts and floods? Or can we create a new society based on co-operation and local solutions , a new world in the ruins of the old?
Reclaim power calls people to come and take mass creative action at Drax Power Station, the monster of our industrial age. It is part of the Camp for Climate Action, a ten day gathering of thousands of people coming together to talk, skill share, and start taking action around climate change.
When thousands of people get together amazing things can happen. Come prepared - make it happen yourself. Bring the element of surprise, passion, props, friends, costumes, music.
What are you waiting for...? Help us stem the tide of climate chaos.
Why Drax?

Drax is one of three coal power stations in Megawatt Valley. On its own, it is the largest single emitter of carbon dioxide in the UK, emitting 20.8m tonnes a year. This is more than a quarter of the total CO2 emitted by all Britain's motorists.
It is the biggest coal-fired power station in Europe, more than twice as big as any other power station in the UK. Drax provides 7% of the UK energy needs, burning nearly 10 million tonnes of coal a year.
Coal is the dirtiest way to make electricity, and yet half of Britain's electricity comes from coal. In fact more and more coal is being used. Dwindling oil and gas supplies mean coal use is on the rise.
Drax is a large part of a system which has to change - system where profit and power are valued over sustainability and co-operation. By challenging it, we challenge our whole way of life.
The future is not yet written, inaction is the tragedy.
